Local bands celebrated at new music festival
- Published: July 1, 2014
Blues riffs, DJ scratches, hip-hop beats and R&B harmonies will mingle in the hot July air in downtown Yellow Springs at an upcoming celebration of local music.
The free one-day music festival on the Fourth of July weekend will showcase the wildly eclectic village music scene and some of its homegrown musicians.
Summer Music Bash, to run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, on the John Bryan Community Center lawn, features music, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks and a beer garden. A 10-artist lineup spotlights local rock, blues and reggae musicians, rappers, beatboxers, DJs, street performers and more.
With the exception of Atlanta blues singer Gillia, all acts are from Yellow Springs or have deep local roots, according to festival organizer Dorian Benning.
Also performing at the festival are Spanish Tony Sanchez, Lauren Nicole & Vanessa Honore, Bluzion, Jonny Dreads & The Mystiks, Village Fam, ErratiC, Nerak Roth Patterson Band, DJ SpareChange, Thomas Allison and Joseph.
The festival is also a way to raise awareness about in-school bullying, with a short 10-minute talk about the issue planned.
