Bakari recital at Friends Care Sunday

Vocalist Martin Bakari, a recent graduate of the Julliard School of Music, will perform this Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. at Friends Care Community. He will be accompanied by villager Sam Reich, who graduated from the Eastman School of Music.
Bakari will perform “Dowson Songs,” an original 45-minute song cycle composed by New York City-based pianist Grigory Smirnov, who will also attend the recital.The songs are based on the romantic poetry of the British poet Ernest Dowson. The piece was commissioned by the ASCAP Foundation and performed by Bakari at Merkin Hall in New York City in April.
Bakari is a 2005 graduate of Yellow Springs High School who grew up performing in YS Kids Playhouse plays and other school performances.
Seating is limited and will be available for $15 at the door.
