MLK Day march, events on Monday

The annual community march and program to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place this Monday, Jan. 19. The march will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Mills Lawn School, following a 9:30 a.m. opening event at the Coretta Scott King Center on the Antioch College campus.
At 11 a.m. marchers and other interested persons are invited to a community celebration of King at the Central Chapel AME Church at 411 S. High Street. The Rev. Joel King of Columbus, a first cousin of Dr. King, will speak on the theme of “His Dream, Our Commitment to Justice.” The program will also feature student essays, songs and performances by the Booth family drummers and the World House Choir. A free soup lunch will follow.
In the afternoon, a teach-in on the theme “From Civil Rights to Social Justice” will take place at 113 McGregor Hall on the Antioch College campus, for those ages 13 and up. Separate activities for younger children will be offered in a nearby space.
