Celebrate Tom’s 50 years in the grocery business

This year is the 50th year that Tom Gray, owner of Tom’s Market, has been in the grocery business and in fact, in the same store. Starting as a bag boy at what was then Luttrell’s when he was a high school freshman, Gray stuck with the local market after high school graduation, moving from the produce to the meat to the dairy department before taking on management of the whole store, which had by then become Weaver’s. And in 2001 Gray bought the market from Bud Weaver, at which point it was rechristened, Tom’s Market.

Gray will celebrate his half-century at the market this Friday and Saturday, July 17-18, with free hot dogs and soda for all from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
