Friends Music Camp concert on Saturday
- Published: July 24, 2015
The annual Yellow Springs concert by campers and staff at the Friends Music Camp will take place this Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mills Lawn gym.
The program will include performances by the camp’s band, student ensembles, staff members and the all-campus chorus. Four campers will perform as soloists, including Sean McDonald of Yellow Springs, who will play an original piece he wrote for the bass trombone. This year 10 campers and three staff members hail from Yellow Springs. Titled “Musicians for Justice and Peace,” the concert will benefit Glen Helen.
Participants in the camp, which was founded by Peg Champney and Jean Putnam of Yellow Springs, hail from 14 states and from Costa Rica. The two-week and four-week camp aims to encourage musical growth in a non-competitive environment that is steeped in Quaker values and practice.
Tickets will be $10 at the door for adults and $5 for children under 12.
