Mary Alice Boyersmith has passed away.

She was the daughter of Alton and Selena Loe Huston and was born on the family farm on Jan. 15, 1921.
Mary Alice went to the Bee Hive School on Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, the third generation to go to that school. She graduated from Bryan High School in 1938, went to cosmetology school and owned her own beauty shop in Yellow Springs.

In 1944, she married Thomas H. Owen (deceased) from Yellow Springs, and from that union there were two sons — Douglas Glyn Owen (deceased) and Robert Owen who lives with his family in Metairie, La.

In 1959 the Owen family moved to Benton Harbor, Mich., and the family separated in 1969.

In 1968, Mary Alice began 15 years employment at Inter City Bank; and in 1981, she married Earl Boyersmith (deceased). Both Earl and Mary Alice enjoyed their years square dancing and serving as volunteers at Mercy Hospital.

Mary Alice was also a member of the Antioch Chapter Order of the Eastern Star since 1940, receiving her 75-year pin this year.

She is survived by her son Robert and his wife, Valerie, and grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, and Elizabeth; daughter-in-law Donna and grandchildren Christopher, his wife, Erin, Gwendolyn, her husband, Michael, and great-granddaughter Morgan.

  1. Dana Cooper says:

I really miss my buddy, I lived next door to her and Mr Boyersmith on Pontiac Rd in St Joe township. I was young with 2 children. She started me with my Hosta plants. I was in Benton Harbor this pass weekend and went by her house and mine which took up the block. She left everlasting memories, I truly miss my friend, may you and Mr Boyersmith rest well, until we meet again
