John Ray Arney passed away on Dec. 14, 2015, at Friends Care Community. He was a Yellow Springs resident since 2012. He is survived by his niece, Yellow Springs shop owner Donna (Flower) Blackmon, and great-nephew Patrick Donald Blackmon. He retired from the Dayton Police Department in 1980, where he served alongside his brother, offier Donald J. Arney. “Uncle Ray,” as most Yellow Springs friends knew him, is remembered for his happy demeanor and friendly nature. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. His viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, in Beavercreek. Viewing will be held Monday, Dec. 21, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. A procession will follow to the VA cemetery for a military service and burial at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Dayton F.O.P Foundation for the memorial wall project for fallen officers. Pledges may be called in at 937-237-4275; you will receive a pamphlet with information regarding your gift.
