Daryn Straley

Daryn Straley, 44, of Athens, Ohio, was taken suddenly from this life on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, following a car accident. He is lovingly remembered as an adoring “papa” and husband, a nature enthusiast and a committed medical professional, who was deeply devoted to his students, his patients and his cystic fibrosis research, pursued on behalf of his daughter, Lilly. He is revered for the passion with which he approached his many and diverse interests, which included beekeeping, alpine skiing, running and the enjoyment of all things German.
Born Jan. 2, 1971, Dr. Straley was raised in the Salt Lake City area. He graduated with honors from Beavercreek High School in Ohio, the University of Utah and Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. His dedicated military service to the U.S. Air Force and Army Reserves included deployments to South Korea, Germany, Iraq, Ghana and Belgium. Most recently, Dr. Straley served as a physician and associate professor at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W. Va. Previously, he served at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.
Dr. Straley’s survivors include his 7-year-old daughter, Lillian Straley, and loving wife Katherine; his parents-in-law, Ruth and Hank Lapp, of Yellow Springs; other family members and many beloved friends and colleagues.
A memorial service was held Jan. 2, 2016, in Athens.
