Learn to cook, eat local at workshop
- Published: June 4, 2016
Tecumseh Land Trust will host a “Shop Local/Eat Local” workshop on Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m.–noon, at the TLT office, located at 4633 U.S. 68 in Yellow Springs. It will be presented by two enthusiastic local gardeners, food shoppers and cooks: Krista Magaw and Anna Carlson.
Every year, new varieties of local vegetables, meats, and cheeses are available in the Yellow Springs area, making dinner more and more delicious and interesting. Magaw and Carlson will share their techniques for shopping, foraging, storing and cooking local foods. They will demonstrate how to make broth bag soup base and a variety of pestos and other creative meal makers. They will also offer tips on how to stock a pantry for meals “in a pinch.”
Magaw, well-known in Yellow Springs for her cooking skills, is the executive director of the Tecumseh Land Trust. Carlson has worked on Heartbeat Farm, a CSA, and is currently recommending tasty food and wine pairings at the Emporium.
The workshop is free to Tecumseh Land Trust members. Nonmembers can participate for $25 and will receive a membership to TLT. Registration is required. Participants will leave with several recipes and meal ideas for the week and beyond. Visit http://www.tecumsehlandtrust.org or call 767-9490 to register or for more information. A light lunch of items prepared during the workshop will be served.
