Choral group to perform

The Calmus Ensemble of Leipzig, Germany, will perform a concert of choral chamber music on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Yellow Springs. The concert is presented by Chamber Music Yellow Springs.

Founded in Germany in 1999, the quintet features the combination of a soprano voice with four male voices ranging from bass to countertenor. The group will perform the program “All the World’s a Stage,” which commemorates the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare with a special program inspired by Shakespeare’s works. Composers range from 16th-century England’s Orlando Gibbons and Henry Purcell to contemporary composers like John Tavener and Nancy Wertsch.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $7 for students. Information on purchasing tickets is available at http://www.cmys.org.

Local musician and conductor James Johnston will give a preconcert lecture at 6:45 p.m. Those who wish to attend a post concert dinner with the musicians in a local home should call 937-374-8800 at least four days in advance of the event to reserve a space.
