Join seniors for ‘flash mob’ performance
- Published: May 24, 2017
The YS Senior Center will celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 31, with its fourth annual “flash mob” dance. At 1 p.m., dancers will flood Short Street to dance to the song “Move Your Body” by Beyonce. The song is a reworked version of Beyonce’s song “Get Me Bodied”; Beyonce renamed the song “Move Your Body” and choreographed it as part of the “Let’s Move! Flash Workout” initiative, part of former First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative to end childhood obesity.
All are welcome to come out and watch the flash mob; the community is also invited to learn the dance and join in. Those who would like to learn the dance may watch an instructional video online here; the choreography is a simplified version of Beyonce’s original choreography. Participants are asked to be ready to stroll into Short Street a few minutes before 1 p.m., and to dress in red, white and blue or carry a small American flag. Those planning to participate are asked to email yscurves@sbcglobal.net.
A reception with light refreshments will follow at the Senior Center. In the case of inclement weather, the flash mob will be canceled, but the reception will continue as planned.
