Community Read to focus on understanding dementia
- Published: January 17, 2018
The Yellow Springs Community Library is partnering with the Yellow Springs Senior Center’s Dementia Friendly Yellow Springs, or DFYS, Project to host the first ever Yellow Springs-wide Community Read. The selected book will be Gerda Saunders’ “Memory’s Last Breath: Field Notes on My Dementia.” The book has earned starred reviews in both Booklist and Kirkus Reviews. In anticipation of the Community Read, the library has purchased 20 copies of the book.
A discussion of the book will be held in the Virginia Hamilton Room of the library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The public is invited to share in the Community Read and the book discussion. The intention of the reading project is to increase community understanding of the challenges experienced by friends, neighbors and villagers who are experiencing dementia.
Further information on the Community Read can be found by contacting the Yellow Springs Community Library at 767-7661 or DFYS Project Coordinator Kate LeVesconte at klevesconte@gmail.com.
