Late in the evening of Friday, June 18, a turbulent storm blew through the region. The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for several areas throughout Southwestern Ohio, including Greene County. While no tornado touched down near Yellow Springs, the village was battered with intense winds and heavy rainfall for much of the night.

Nearby Pitchin, 10 miles northeast of Yellow Springs, stayed dry and also remained tornado-free. From her home there, News advertising manager Suzanne Szempruch captured this awe-inspiring scene: a flash of lightning streaking beneath a rainbow.
