Evelyn J. (Sims) Milligan

Evelyn J. (Sims) Milligan, formerly of Yellow Springs, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 25, 2022. Evelyn was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Morrow, Ohio, to parents Homer and Ida (Davis) Sims.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her older son, Kingston Craig Milligan; brothers, Howard Sims, Morris Sims, Homer Sims Jr., and Thomas Sims; and sisters, Thelma (Sims) Settles and Gertrude (Sims) Featherstone.

She is survived by her two daughters, Melody Milligan and Valarie L. Milligan, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her younger son, V. Kevin Milligan, also of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Doris (Sims) Woodson, of Lebanon, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Evelyn retired in 1995 after serving as a shipping supervisor for 34 years at Antioch Publishing Company. She also worked as a caregiver in the community for several years and loved helping people. She had a passion for designing and making crafts. Finding inspiration in magazines, she loved creating ornaments, baskets and flower arrangements, which she gifted to her friends and family. Her favorite color purple and shades of purple were usually seen on her and in her home.

Most of all she enjoyed caring for animals. Carrying bread crumbs and crackers with her, she loved to drive to Dewine’s Pond and feed the ducks. All sorts of animals — deer, rabbits, cats, dogs — came to her yard; even squirrels would feed from her hand. Cherished by her four children in kind, she loved her “grand” dogs and “grand” cats.  She always had little treats ready for her animal “children.” Evelyn loved to cook for the holidays, cooking enough to send leftovers home with her kids. Keeping an immaculate house was important to her, and  she loved flowers of all kinds, especially sunflowers. She always said she wanted her flowers while she was alive. She will be lovingly remembered by many. Lastly, she loved the Lord with all of her heart and now rests gently in the arms of her Savior.

Evelyn was a member at Zion Global Ministries, West Chester, Ohio, under the direction of Pastor Freddie T. Piphus. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 600 Dayton St., in Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Glen Forest Cemetery in Yellow Springs. Masks are required at the service.
