A new place to get pampered is opening up in downtown Yellow Springs this month: Running Errands, a nail salon set to open on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Located at 257 Xenia Ave. — most recently where RE/MAX was — Running Errands will offer manicures, pedicures, nail technician services, eyebrow treatments and more. Once open, the nail salon’s hours will be Wednesday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; service prices start at $45.

As villager and proprietor Emily Semere told the News earlier this week, the new nail salon will serve as a kind of “sister store” to her ART+CRAFT hair salon just two doors down — both of which she said are geared towards villagers wanting to look and feel good.

“Come on in and treat yourself to a nice spa day,” Semere said, adding that, while walk-ins will be welcome, appointments will be preferred.

Semere said the salon’s name, “Running Errands,” is a tongue-in-cheek nod to the kind of meandering approach some folks have to checking off items on their to-do list around town.

“So pop in, get your nails done, pop out and get back to your grocery shopping at Tom’s,” she said. “Or maybe you have a few minutes before you need to pick up your kid from school, or your trip to the post office didn’t take very long.”

She added: “But taking time for yourself, even for just a few moments out of the day — when you’re probably busy taking care of everyone else in your life — can be a kind of errand.”

Semere described Running Errands as a “natural salon” — one that eschews harmful chemicals, products and treatments typically found in corporate nail salons. To that end, Running Errands’ lacquer and gel polishes, sugar scrubs, mineral soaks, hydrating bombs and more have already been vetted for quality and bodily impacts.

“We really want to take care of the integrity of the nail,” Semere said. “You can get pretty messed up if you’re in the wrong hands.”

Once finished in the coming days, Running Errands’ 900-square-foot space won’t look like the traditional, “sterile” nail salon, Semere said. It’ll be adorned with midcentury-modern aesthetics designed to create a “homey feel” that is inclusive and welcoming to all.

The studio will also be a living homage to village creatives: The walls will soon function as a rotating gallery for local artists, and the minimalist nail stations were made by Yellow Springs-based Fernature Fine Woodworking. Semere also said her aestheticians and nail technicians hail from the immediate area — talented folks she gleaned from nearby cosmetology schools.

Just a few steps past the five nail stations will be a “brow bar,” for folks to get their eyebrows touched up, as well as a three-seat pedicure and foot-soaking station with large copper basins.

Taken together, Semere said this space is “more for the villager than the visitor.”

“This town needs more places that have services that villagers need,” Semere said. “I’m always about taking care of the community first, and then the outside. But no matter what, we’ll be welcoming to all.”

And that includes men, Semere added.

“This isn’t just for women — it’s for anyone who wants to take care of and pamper themselves,” she said. “Men often don’t want to get a manicure or a pedicure because the environment is usually geared towards just women, but here, I’m keeping things neutral. We’re not trying to attract a specific age, gender or kind of person.”

Looking ahead to the coming months, and drawing from the inevitable lessons learned from the opening days, Semere said it’s likely Running Errands will run occasional specials — perhaps moisturizing paraffin dips in the winter to heal dry and cracked hands, gel extensions, nail art or even studio rentals for wedding parties or yoga retreats.

“I want folks to know that we exist, we’re accessible and we’re inclusive, and everyone is welcome here,” Semere said.

Running Errands, located at 257 Xenia Ave. in downtown Yellow Springs, is set to hold its soft opening on Wednesday, Oct. 15, with ongoing hours Wednesday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
