The three Yellow Springs hopefuls running for office fell short of their goals on Election Day. Yellow Springs resident Sharen Neuhardt fought hard but lost her race as 7th District Congressional representative to her opponent and longtime Republican politician Steve Austria.

Voters in Greene County felt similar to voters across the state, who all voted overwhelmingly for the Ohio Initiatives Deadlines Act.

Both the Ohio electorate and Greene County voters swung widely Republican with resounding support for incumbent Chris Widener.

The Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School football program is preparing early for the 2009 season. YSHS and McKinney students interested in playing football are asked to sign up now on the bulletin board across from the high school office.

The GunderKline twins had a morning to remember at the Div. III state cross country championships in Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 1. Held at Scioto Downs race tack, the climatic meet of the harrier season attracted a huge crowd of 10,000 spectators to cheer on 151 runners…

Jean Ruth (Liddle) DeWine died on Oct. 28, 2008, at home in Yellow Springs. She was 83 years old. Her husband of 65 years, Richard Lee DeWine, died shortly after on Saturday, Nov. 1, also at their home. He was 85 years old.

The Crickets basketball program for girls and boys in first through third grade will begin Friday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. The program is aimed at providing instruction on basketball fundamentals to prepare kids for recreational or traveling team programs.

The Yellow Springs High School Fitness Center is open for community use Mondays, 7–9 p.m.; Wednesdays, 7–9 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 a.m.–noon.

Is there anyone among us who does not think Yellow Springs is cool? Now Budget Travel magazine has confirmed this distinction in its September issue by naming the village one of the “10 Coolest Small Towns” in America.
