Is there anyone among us who does not think Yellow Springs is cool? Now Budget Travel magazine has confirmed this distinction in its September issue by naming the village one of the “10 Coolest Small Towns” in America.

The Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School football program is preparing early for the 2009 season. YSHS and McKinney students interested in playing football are asked to sign up now on the bulletin board across from the high school office.

Ann S. Harris of Yellow Springs passed away Thursday, Oct. 16. She was 61. She attended Antioch College and was the owner of her own small publishing business. She was an avid volley ball player on several senior leagues, and loved animals, reading, and gardening.

Dorothy J. Clark, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away Oct. 23, after a sudden onset of multiple complications. She was 82. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on Feb. 26, 1926, Dorothy received her bachelors degree in education from Wittenburg University.

The Crickets basketball program for girls and boys in first–third grade starts Friday, Nov. 7. The program is aimed at providing instruction on basketball fundamentals to prepare kids for recreational or traveling team programs.

A month and a half after its launch, the students, staff and teachers of the Nonstop Liberal Arts Institute face many unknowns. They don’t know how long Nonstop will stay funded. They don’t know if their beloved Antioch College will reopen.

Up out of the Mississippi Delta in and around Bluesman BB King territory, David Lamont Landes was born in 1941. His parents, Art and Margaret Landes, worked as organizers on the Delta Cooperative Farm in Clarksdale, (Coahoma County) Miss….

Max R. Pitstick, of Xenia, passed away Oct. 14 at his home. He was 78. He was born April 29, 1930, in Jamestown, the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Bittner) Pitstick.
