Football team bests Riverview The Bulldog football team’s third-string offense came to the rescue on Friday, Oct. 16, leading to the second win of the season 14–0 against Riverview East Academy. Yellow Springs quarterback Tony Parker came in for injured players and managed a respectable eight passes for 13 attempts to total 139 yards, including […]
Boys soccer beats Greenview The YSHS boys soccer team beat the Greeneview Rams 3–2 on the road Saturday, Oct. 10. After a lackluster first half, the Bulldogs were fortunate to only be trailing the Rams 1–0, and soon enough, Greeneview was up 2–0 before Yellow Springs finally started to click. Alexis Onfroy scored first on […]
Two advance to golf districts On Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Moss Creek course in Trotwood, YSHS golfers Carl Weiner and Lucas Donnell did what only two previous Bulldog golfers have done — qualify for the Division III District tournament. Competing in the sectional match at Moss Creek, Weiner and Donnell each shot an 89 […]
The YSHS football team lost 51–6 to Toronto High School on Friday, Sept. 18.
Bulldog Roland Newsome brought down Toronto’s kickoff at their 30-yard line, but the visitors scored in the first three minutes of the game. That was followed by four touch downs in the first quarter.
The Lady Bulldog soccer team lost 6–1 to a Sidney Lehman powerhouse on Saturday, Sept. 5, in which Anna Karling Khan scored the team’s only goal, unassisted. The Yellow Springs team then lost 3–0 to Dayton Christian on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when keeper Katie Triplett held back the Warriors with dozens of saves and Lucy Callahan had a near-miss on a goal.
The Yellow Springs High School girls soccer team lost 3–0 to Miami Valley on Saturday, Aug. 29, and then fell hard at 9–0 against Tecumseh on Monday, Aug. 31. The scores did not tell the whole story, however, and Monday’s game appeared more balanced than Saturday’s. The girls start their season off 0–2.
As the lone Yellow Springs High School representative to run at the state track meet in Columbus on Saturday, June 6, Brock GunderKline finished 10th in the 800-meter run in 1:59.4. That time was a tad slower than the personal record of 1:58.95 he set at the regional meet the previous weekend, but GunderKline beat David Curtin, the Cincinnati Hills runner who finished ahead of him at regionals, and earned a laudable spot in his event as the tenth fastest Div. III runner in Ohio.
“That’s the fastest I’ve ever run that one,” Brock GunderKline said, still out of breath from hitting third place and a personal record in the 800-meter run at the Div. III regional track meet on Friday, May 29. “Vince just told me to stay steady with the pack and use my kick at the end. It worked!”
Competing in blustery, rain-swept conditions, the Bulldogs boys track team put forth a solid effort at the London tri-meet on Tuesday, April 21, to come in second with 59 points. London won the meet with 93 points, and Fairbanks took third with 15.5.
The Yellow Springs High School distance runners dominated the Impson Cedarville Invitational on Saturday, April 11, by capturing first place in four events to help the team win 66 points overall for a fifth place finish.
