    Last Saturday’s district tournament performances showed that juniors Erika Chick and Elizabeth Malone are getting even faster in victorious swims.

  • Swim team to meet

    The Yellow Springs swim team will hold an organizational meeting on Wednesday, May 12, 6:30 p.m., at the library. The group will vote on officers for the upcoming year, organize committees and discuss concerns about the upcoming season.

    The high school swimming season ended this past weekend with Erika Chick and Elizabeth Malone’s combined scores giving Yellow Springs a 13th place finish. Chick, a sophomore, brought home two bronze medals from the State meet. Chick placed third in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:53.03. She also finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.03.

    Elizabeth Malone, also a sophomore, placed 10th overall in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.15 and 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.71. For the fifth time in 10 years, the Bulldog boys basketball team finished its regular season in first place in the Metro Buckeye Conference with an 11–1 league record and a 15–3 season record, putting the team in a class with just a handful of other teams in the school’s history. The girls basketball team lost 73-36 to Franklin-Monroe in their first tournament game. Amber Dudgeon had 14 points and Maryah Martin put up 12.

    Two YSHS swimmers qualified at the district meet at Miami University last Friday and Saturday to advance to the Div. II state meet, to be held this weekend in Canton. Taylor Ford, Erika Chick and Elizabeth Malone represented Yellow Springs and brought home two wins for the school.

  • Two local swimmers aim for state

    Imagine a place where the air is hot and humid and the water is ice cold. The smell of chlorine fills the air along with the sounds of splashing water, buzzers, bells and sometimes even guns echoing through the natatorium. Hundreds of people, from swimmers, coaches, timers, officials and spectators, line the pool deck and bleachers.

    The Yellow Springs boys varsity basketball team bested league foe Dayton Christian 64–58 on the road on Friday, Jan. 29. The Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 44–29 in the second half to remain undefeated in the Metro Buckeye Conference, with a season record of 10–1.

    The YSHS boys basketball team tucked another win under its belt last week, overwhelming Miami Valley 62–32 on Friday, Jan. 22. The league win put the Bulldogs up 9–1 for the season and 6–0 in the Metro Buckeye Conference, where they currently stand in first place, one game ahead of Emmanuel Academy.
