MLK Jr. Day celebration to focus on ‘The Color of Unity’
- Published: January 11, 2016
The planning committee for the 2016 YS Martin Luther King Jr. Day program has selected this year’s theme, “The Color of Unity,” which intends to highlight King’s message that, regardless of differences, people must work together to create a better world. The program will be held on Monday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m., at Central Chapel A.M.E. Church, and will include performances by the Booth Family Drummers, the World House Choir, spoken word artist Frank Brown, the Bahá’í Junior Youth dancers and the Wilberforce University Choir, as well as Peacemaker essays by YS students.
The 2016 Community Peacemaker Award will be given to John Gudgel, acknowledging the many roles that he fills in the village, from mediation to leading community conversations. The program will be immediately followed by a lunch of soup and other refreshments, free of charge.
Before the program, community members are invited to meet at Mills Lawn Elementary at 10:30 a.m. for the annual march through Yellow Springs. For more information, email YSMLKDay@yahoo.com.
