On Sunday, April 25, the villagewide Earth Week series of events came to a celebratory crescendo at the new Miami Township Fire-Rescue firehouse on the south end of town.
The YS Wildlife Habitat Community Celebration drew nearly 100 people to the firestation’s parking lot to celebrate the Village’s recent certification through the National Wildlife Federation as an official Wildlife Community Habitat.
The event featured a number educational booths from local sustainability and environmental groups, live acoustic music, a potato stamp-making table for the kids, firetruck tours and more.
At the height of the event, just after Mayor Pam Conine declared the day to be Mayors’ Monarch Pledge Day, dozens of monarch butterfly-friendly milkweed plants were raffled off to attendees.
