Sherry Lane Wixson, 78, of Yellow Springs, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2025, at Friends Care Community. Born on May 26, 1947, in Wilmington, Ohio, Sherry lived her life with kindness, creativity, and deep devotion to her family and community.
A cum laude graduate of Wilmington College, Sherry spent 25 years as an MUI (Major Unusual Incident) Investigator with the Clark County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where her work reflected her compassion and unwavering sense of justice. She continued to serve others through her volunteer work at Yellow Springs Community Children’s Center and Yellow Springs Senior Center.
Sherry found joy in life’s simple pleasures: hiking in nature, sewing beautiful creations, cooking heartfelt meals, crafting and drumming with soul. But the greatest joy of all was her role as a grandmother, a title she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her daughters, Tana Peterson (Brian Douthy) and Kristen Gomes (Michael); grandchildren, Yanna Warfield (Ryan), Roice Sheley (Jackie Swartz), Alissa Sheley, Jeffrey Sheley (Shelby) and Deja Peterson (Emma Durfee); and great-grandchildren, Kaden, Emmitt, Chloe, Selah and Serena.
Also remembering her with love are her brother Jeffrey Wixson, nephew Jason Mitchell, niece Jasmyn Wixson and her grand-pup Mocha, who brought joy and cuddles in equal measure. Her chosen family included Bryan Peterson, Tony Fambro, Amy and Jennifer Jackson, Maureen Mitchell, Lisa Hamilton, Maria Prether, Krista Slessman, Ronnette Norris and George and Tikal Gray — each one a treasured part of her life.
A cancer survivor, Sherry met each challenge with quiet strength and fierce independence. Her life was guided by love, resilience and a gentle humor that warmed every room. She often said, “Peace be the journey,” “Cool runnings,” and with a sweet farewell, “Bye bye, sweetie pie.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to: Friends Care Community, Ohio Hospice, City of Hope (formerly Cancer Treatment Centers of America) or the American Cancer Society.
A service in celebration of Sherry’s life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, in The Landing at Littleton & Rue. Memories and condolences may be shared at http://www.littletonandrue.com
