    Yellow Springs Board of Education meeting for Thursday, May 27 is canceled.

  • Heitor de Andrade Neto

    Heitor de Andrade Neto, co-founder of the Brazilian Ecosystems: The Protection and Management of Biodiversity program of Antioch University, died Monday, May 10, in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. He was a life-long friend to anyone he met.

  • Sydney Welton memorial

    A memorial celebration of the life of Sydney Welton will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m. Friends are invited to gather to view slides and share memories of Syd’s life.

  • Pauline Breiter

    Former village resident Pauline Portugalo Breiter died Sunday, April 25, in Bloomington, Ind. She was 96. Born March 8, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the third of four daughters to Meier and Dora Portugalo. Her parents emigrated from the Ukraine during the first decade of the last century, and they sold fruit and vegetables from pushcarts and stores in New York City.

  • Swim team to meet

    The Yellow Springs swim team will hold an organizational meeting on Wednesday, May 12, 6:30 p.m., at the library. The group will vote on officers for the upcoming year, organize committees and discuss concerns about the upcoming season.

  • Bulldog Sports Round-up

    On Tuesday, May 4, the YSHS boys track team finished fifth out of ten teams at the Shawnee Invitational. Shawnee won the meet. Mario Cosey had first-place finishes in the 100 (11.25) and 200 (23.22) dashes. Will Rippley was second in the high jump and long jump. Logan Norris-Sayres was second in the 200 dash.

  • Rec baseball needs volunteers

    Volunteers are needed to help this summer with youth recreational baseball. There is a need for assistant coaches for both minor and major leagues, as well as field preparation for infield (which will not include mowing). Volunteers may help with either or both. Students grades 9–12 who volunteer will be eligible for community service credits.

  • Theater, music, cones this summer

    The Corner Cone will serve up more than just ice cream and hot dogs this year. Every Friday evening until the end of its season in October it plans to offer a live music performance, and in August it will make its foray into theater with an event co-owner Bob Swaney is calling the “Soft Serve Playhouse 10-Minute Play Festival.”
