The varsity baseball team wrapped up the 2022–23 season with an exciting match-up against Franklin Monroe on May 15, which ultimately ended in a 3–4 loss for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Tiger Collins achieved all-league honors with a first-place leap in the high jump (4’6) while also jumping to runner-up effort in the long jump (15’0).
The boys tennis team were recently named Metro Buckeye Conference champions.
Bulldogs softball pitcher Halee Sparks racked up a whopping 26 strikeouts over 17 innings of play last week, with her strong arm helping lead the team to victory in three out of four games.
At the Greene County Invitational, senior Malcolm Blunt ran to a first-place finish in the 200 meters with a personal- and season-best time of 22.71. He complemented this effort with a runner-up finish in the long jump, leaping 19´10˝.
“Violet Babb is throwing hard this year. While she has struggled with her control thus far, when she throws strikes, she is unhittable,” Coach Jimmy Delong said. Babb has nine strikeouts in six innings this season and has only allowed four hits.
The middle school baseball team, new to the program this year, had its first win on Friday, April 7, taking down the Emmanuel Christian Academy Lions.
Last year’s softball team featured a senior-laden squad that swept through the MBC with an undefeated record. With only three starters returning and the entire starting infield graduating, on the surface it would appear to be a rebuilding year for the team. “Not so.”
The Bulldogs drew a strong Franklin Monroe team in first-round play of the postseason sectional tournament. The game was played on Monday, May 16, at Franklin Monroe High School in Arcanum.
In match ups against Middletown Christian, Dayton Christian and Legacy Christian, the YSHS softball team won all six games, putting them first in the conference with a perfect 6–0 record in league play.
