World House Choir: Come sing with us
- Published: February 17, 2018
The World House Choir, an inclusive, multicultural, mixed-voice community choir based in Yellow Springs, is welcoming new members as the group prepares for its next set of performances, including events in Yellow Springs, Dayton and Cincinnati.
Newcomers are invited to join in at the next scheduled rehearsal, Monday, Feb. 26, at Antioch College’s Foundry Theater, 920 Corry Street, Yellow Springs. Voice placement warmups, to determine appropriate section placement, will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the full choir rehearsal beginning at 7 p.m. No experience is necessary. There is no audition. Singers are asked only to be able to match a pitch.
Regular rehearsals are 7–8:30 p.m. Mondays, though additional days and longer rehearsals are sometimes scheduled immediately before concerts. On-site childcare is provided at every rehearsal.
In the coming months, the choir will be preparing to perform an extended piece called “Bayard Rustin: The Man Behind the Dream,” in early September, in addition to a wide range of repertoire for events through the spring and summer, including the annual Coretta Scott King celebration in April.
Founded and directed by Catherine Roma, the World House Choir has about 100 members from across southwest Ohio. Its mission is to perform “music that motivates and inspires our communities toward justice, diversity and equality as we strive for peace and build our web of mutuality.”
