On Saturday, Feb. 12, Garmint Boutique held its soft opening as Yellow Springs’ only vintage clothing store.

Located in the Dayton Street space most recently occupied by Blue Butterfly, next to Rose & Sal Mercantile, the shop’s storefront is hard to miss: the lime-green exterior is matched only by the flamboyant styles within.

According to owner and proprietor Susan Burgos, pictured above, the idea for the boutique has been in the works for a while. She and her partner, Mike Bell, started Rose & Sal Mercantile vintage consignment store in 2018, and have been adding to their collection of mid-century wares ever since. Now, with the boutique’s extra space earmarked exclusively for vintage clothing, Burgos said she gets to refine the shop’s offerings.

“We want to specialize in trendy, urban and hipster fashions,” Burgos said. “And besides us, there’s really no place in town to get guys’ clothing.”

Burgos added that Garmint’s consignment approach to doing business brings in a wide variety of styles.

Garmint’s grand opening will likely be held in March, in concurrence with a community event at Rose & Sal, next door. For the shop’s hours-to-be, specials and events, follow Garmint’s Instagram account at @garmintboutique.
