• Superintendent finalists visit

  Three school superintendent candidates will visit the village next week, and the community is invited to hear from them, ask questions and get involved in choosing at meetings, Mon.–Wed., April 5–7, from 5:40 to 7:15 p.m.

• One-acts take fairy tale leap

  The annual Yellow Springs High School One-Act Plays are upon us again, this year led predominantly by members of the junior class. The plays this year include everything from awkward situations to a not-so-super hero, mixed up fairy tales, a mad scientist, blind dates, Power Rangers, war stories and a French-teaching superman. Even with new guidelines put into place by the students themselves, the one-acts are sure to be as good as ever.

  To clarify what administrators fear might be villagers’ misperceptions regarding math performance at Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School, Principal John Gudgel and Interim Superintendent Tony Armocida presented information on the district’s five-year-old math initiative at the Nov. 12 school board meeting.

• Survey highlights concerns of special needs parents

  Most parents of special needs children in the Yellow Springs school system are satisfied with their children’s program. However, the level of satisfaction drops considerably when the child moves from Mills Lawn to the middle school and high school, where a lack of communication between parents and teachers, and teachers with each other, are perceived areas of discontent.

  Lois Miller won the third race of her freshman year on Saturday, Sept. 26, taking the title at the 28th annual Bellbrook cross country invitational. The Lady Bulldogs, with 59 points, improved their season record by taking home the second place trophy, just behind Bellbrook with 25 points, and ahead of Wilmington in third with 69.

  The YSHS football team lost 51–6 to Toronto High School on Friday, Sept. 18.

  Bulldog Roland Newsome brought down Toronto’s kickoff at their 30-yard line, but the visitors scored in the first three minutes of the game. That was followed by four touch downs in the first quarter.
