The hot and dry weather this summer has no doubt stressed local homeowners whose lawns have turned brown from lack of rain. But even more stressed are area crops.
Rain drenched the Yellow Springs area on Sunday and Monday, continuing a trend of wet weather over the last few months.
Three storm systems charged through Yellow Springs on Wednesday evening, May 26. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning in Greene County a little after 7 p.m. due to possible tornadic activity spotted by Doppler radar, but there were no actual tornado sightings, according to the NWS.
Spring is tornado season, and forecasters say the Ohio Valley may be in the path of more severe weather than usual. Villagers would do well to consider their safety plans before the tornado warning sirens sound.
Was it hot out this summer? Or was it just me? Okay, it was hot out, but maybe not as hot as you think. According to Dayton-area statistics from the National Weather Service, or NWS, in Wilmington, 2010 shaped up as the 12th hottest summer since record keeping began 132 years ago.
