Boys track finishes second
At this year’s Bulldog Invitational track meet on Friday, May 9, the YSHS boys track team finished second of 11 teams. Bethel won the meet with 153 points, while Yellow Springs trailed with 117 points, and Lockland followed with 110. The YSHS girls finished fifth out of nine teams, letting Bethel take first with 141, followed by Springfield Shawnee with 131 and Miami Valley with 113.
Two distance relays and a sprint relay put the Bulldog boys up front at Friday’s home meet, with first and second place finishes in other events to bring the host team’s score up.
The 400 relay team finished first in 3:46, as did the 800-relay team, who set a meet record of 8:16 for first place. The 200-relay team as well took first place in 1:35, as did Andy Peters in the 800-meter run and Jake GunderKline in the 800 racewalk.
Second place finishes went to Anthony Pettiford in the 400 dash, which he completed in 54.9 seconds, and Alexis Onfroy in the 1600 meters.
Ron Cobb took third in the 200 dash, while Raphael Allen finished third in the triple jump.
The girls team collected no firsts, but had a solid showing in many events to boost the team’s results. Kristen Foster took second in the 400 dash, while Elizabeth Gonder finished second in the long jump and Allie Berry took second in the 800 racewalk.
Third-place finishes were turned in by the 200 relay team, the 100-relay team and Gina Laurens in the triple jump and Gonder in the 800 meter. Melodie Wright secured a fourth-place finish for the Lady Bulldogs in the discus, as did Brenda Jones in the 100 dash.
