The Twins won the only two Major League games played last week to extend their record to an undefeated 10–0 and solidify their hold on first place going into the final week of play.
Their first win came in a 22–5 overpowering of the Royals on Monday, July 19, in a two-and-a-half hour battle. The Twins’ Jared Scarfpin struck out seven batters in the first three innings for an outstanding performance from the mound. Meanwhile their offensive machine was in full gear as all nine Twins players scored at least one run. Bryce White, J.T. Clark, Joe Thorp and Kaner Butler all scored three times, while Liam Weigand, Colton Hicks, Cameron Haught and Scarfpin all crossed the plate twice. Weigand also managed a season-high eight RBIs. Andrew Clark and D.J. Carsner each added one run. James Fulton led the scoring for the Royals with two, while Adam Green, Eric Longhorn and Ahmad Wagner all scored once.
The Twins’ second win of the week came on Wednesday, July 21, in a 10–1 victory over the Athletics. The Twins’ pitching again proved to be overwhelming, as starter Colton Hicks struck out four A’s batters, followed by seven more from reliever J.T. Clark. Evan Pace, White and Weigand led the scoring, each with a pair of runs. Thorp, Clark, Butler and Hicks all scored a single run. The A’s only score came when Liam Creighton walked in the third inning and was then knocked in by Ian Chick.
The week’s two other games were cancelled due to lack of players. The season’s final two games were scheduled for earlier this week, and the post-season tournament originally planned for July 31 has been cancelled.
