’14 YSHS award recipients

Yellow Springs High School recognized many of its students, especially its seniors, at the annual scholarship awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 20.

Rachel Zendlovitz Meyer was named valedictorian, and Zoey McKinley was named salutatorian.

Zoey McKinley received the Edwin Foos Memorial Scholarship for $3,600.

Independent Order of Oddfellows #279 (I.O.O.F) granted a $1,500 scholarship to Kennedy Harshaw; $1,000 scholarships to Eizo Lang­-Ezekiel and Hannah Brown; and $500 scholarships to Nick Miller­ Jacobson and Evie Weir.

The L. Shelbert Smith Scholarship for $2,000 went to Zoey McKinley, and the G.E.M. (“Go the Extra Mile”) Award of $2,000 was given to Olivia Ramage.

Rachel Meyer received the John McCon­ville Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, with Taylor Beck also receiving a $1,000 award from the James McKee Scholarship.

The Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce Scholarship awarded $1,000 each to Grant Reigelsperger and Tia Peckham, and Max Mullin received the $800 YS Education Association Award.

The Mary Jane Bachtell Memorial Creative Writing Award of $500 was awarded to senior Christina Brewer, with a $50 junior award going to Francesca Brecha.

Bulldog scholarships of $500 were awarded to Evie Weir and Grant Reigelsperger, and the YSHS Theatre Arts Association awarded $200 each to Rachel Zendlovitz Meyer and Evie Weir. The Eric Smith Code Dog Scholarship of $400 was awarded to Max Mullin.

Yellow Springs Arts Council Artist Achievement Awards were presented to Juan Erazo, Nadia Mulhall, Maddie Allen, Molly Brown, Simone Collins, Ben Green, Olivia Chick, Izzy Long, Dylan Bailey, Jennifer Lawson and Tony Lewis. The YSAC presented the Excellence in Individual Art­ Award of $100 to­ Christina Brewer for “After Brunch,” and the $100 Artist Achievement Award For a Series­ to ­Ben Green­ for “Before sleep.”

The YSHS Metro Buckeye Scholarship­ of $150 was presented to Hannah Brown, and the $500 Simply Women scholarship was awarded to Rachele Orme.

The Greene County Youth Activity Fund awarded $500 each to Ben Green and Hannah Brown.

The Bausch & Lomb Science Award from the University of Rochester was awarded to junior Francesca Brecha; and Dylan Boczar received the Honda/OSU Math Medal and the Rensselaer Math and Science Medal from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Noah Winold was named a National Merit Commended Student.

The following students will receive their diploma with honors: Arianna Bateman, Morgan Beard, Christina Brewer, Kirsten Denman, Juan Erazo, Ben Green, Naomi Guth, Zoey McKinley, Rachel Zendlovitz Meyer, Max Mullin and Noah Winold.

The newly inducted members of the National Honor Society are Morgan Beard, Dylan Boczar, Francesca Brecha, David Butcher, Ian Chick, Liam Creighton, Kara Edwards, Rachel Hammond, Ben Ihrig, Edward Johnson, Alex Kellogg, Anna Knippling, Jennifer Lawson, Izzy Long, Mollye Malone and Joshua Seitz. Current senior members of the NHS are Rachel Zendlovitz Meyer, Zoey McKinley, Kirsten Denman and Christina Brewer.

Red Cord Graduates (Community Blood Center) are Zach Kimmet, Jessica Livezey, Rachele Orme and Grant Reigelsperger.

Four $300 scholarships from the Shirley Mullins endowment go to Naomi Guth, Francesca Brecha, Anna Knippling and Connor Gravley-Novello.

The winner of the $500 Martha Dell Cadow and Warren Dell Memorial Athletic Scholarship is Taylor Beck.

The winner of the $750 John Gudgel Scholarship is AnnDee Pettiford.
