The big fix

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Repair Café returned to Yellow Springs, and dozens of villagers and adjacent community members brought in their busted-up possessions to be restored to their former glory.

Rather than throwing away their broken items, attendees of the café opted to have them repaired. From broken lamps and sputtering vacuum cleaners, to beleaguered blenders and dehumidifiers that just don’t dehumidify like they used to, volunteer “fixers” worked on an incredibly wide array of objects. The photographer of the above photo even had a pair of jeans stitched and darned.

Pictured above is Joe Ayres opening up an electronic keyboard, whose owner said to him, “It just doesn’t sound right.” To learn more about the Repair Café and how you can volunteer or participate in future cafés, contact Kat Walter at kat@volksmail.com
