Totally wired
- Published: November 16, 2020
Fiber optic cables were strung through Kieth’s Alley this week as part of a Village project to provide free WiFi to the downtown area using around $50,000 in coronavirus relief funds. The WiFi will likely go live early next week.
The 1-gigabit wireless internet service will be able to provide speeds of between 10 and 100 megabytes per second to thousands of users at a time. The Village is seeking funding for the next phase of the project, which could eventually lead to a municipal fiber network throughout the entire village.
