Roy K. Smith, age 88, of Yellow Springs, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023. A resident of Yellow Springs since 1995, he was born in Morgan County, Ohio, in 1935, the son of the late Marion Dana and Mary Hazel (Johnson) Smith.

According to unofficial election results posted on the website of Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose Wednesday morning, Aug. 9, the ballot initiative was defeated 1,744,094 votes (57.01%) to  1,315,346 (42.99%) votes.

Special Village Council Meeting Agenda

In a special statewide election on Tuesday, Aug. 8, Ohio voters will vote on a single ballot item: Issue 1, which aims to elevate the standards to pass and qualify for a citizen-initiated constitutional amendment for the state.

Local resident Dr. Tanya Maus, director of the Peace Resource Center at Wilmington College, will lead a panel discussion at the Little Art Theatre Sunday, Aug. 6, following the 6 p.m. screening of “Oppenheimer,” beginning at approximately 9 p.m.

On Friday, July 21, the Little Art Theatre debuted “Barbie” to a capacity crowd. News writers Reilly Dixon and Lauren “Chuck” Shows reviewed the film.

The John Bryan Community Center has been designated as a 24-hour emergency cooling center; Greene County Public Libraries are also designated as cooling centers during hours of operation.
