Brenda Adams
Brenda Joyce Adams was born in Springfield, Ohio, to the late Russell Lewis Winburn Sr. and Paulina Brown on Feb. 8, 1940. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized in Ohio. She was united in holy matrimony to Philip Adams Jan. 4, 1958, in Springfield.

Ruth Bean
Ruth Bean died Aug. 29 at Friends Care Assisted Living. She was 101. Ruth was born in Glen Ullin, N.D. She knit mittens for soldiers in World War I, played piano for silent movies and taught school in a one-room prairie schoolhouse.

David Romer
John David Romer died peacefully after a short illness Wednesday, July 21, at his home in Welland, Ontario. He was 67. David was a Yellow Springs native, son of John and Ruth Romer, long-time local residents. He attended the Antioch School and was vice-president of the Bryan High School graduating class of 1960.

Naida Sutch Gillespie died Tuesday, Aug. 17, while asleep in her living room. Naida’s education included high school in Lake Township, Ohio; a bachelors degree from Taylor University in 1945; a masters from Oberlin Graduate School of Theology in 1953; a M.Div. degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1961…

Barbara Preis
Barbara Elizabeth Hogg Preis died at Friends Care Community on Friday, July 20. She was 83. Barbara was born on December 22, 1926, in Rangitikei, New Zealand, the daughter of Lewis Gordon Hogg and Bessie Bruce Hogg. Barbara grew up on a sheep farm in Halcombe, New Zealand, and attended Nga Tawa Diocesan School for Girls.

Ruth Yellowhawk
Former Yellow Springs resident and WYSO employee Ruth Yellowhawk died Saturday, Aug. 7, in her home in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Her husband, Jim, and other family members were with her. Ruth spent her last few days in the glass-walled living room of her home where she had a panoramic view of the skies and evergreens surrounding her home.

Frank Betcher
Frank Hubert Betcher died peacefully in his home on Saturday, Aug. 7. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Oehl Betcher, in 1986. He is survived by his daughter, Maria Cernota, granddaughter Naomi Cernota and son-in-law William Cernota. They currently reside in Yellow Springs in the family home.

Jim Parker memorial
A celebration of the life of Jim Parker will be held Aug. 22, 2–4 p.m. at the Glen Helen Building. Those attending are asked to bring memories to share. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, gifts and contributions in his memory be made to Friends Care Community and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Yellow Springs.

James Lowell Parker, a stroke survivor of 11 years, died July 27 at Friends Care Community. He was 76. Jim was born July 1, 1934 to Sam and Aline Parker in Versailles, Ill.

Sue Seely
Sue Seely died July 22. She was 83. Sue was born March 9, 1927 in East Lansing, Mich. to Harlan Murray Hungerford and Sarah Irene Prichard. She grew up in Kent, Ohio, where her father was a professor of English at Kent State University.
