Economic development plan OKd

A public/private economic sustainability outreach team of local leaders for the purpose of business retention, expansion and attraction. A “small business solutions team” to support emerging small businesses and assist with planning. An angel investment group or community investment fund focused on investing in start-up or expanding businesses in the village.
These are some of the recommendations in the Village of Yellow Springs Economic Sustainability Plan, which Village Council officially approved at its June 4 meeting. The plan is the result of more than a year’s work by the Village Economic Sustainability Commission, or ESC, and is intended to serve as a guide to Council on economic development efforts. The ESC will next complete a second document designed as an outreach package for targeted businesses, according to Council member Karen Wintrow, who also served on the ESC.
Council thanked the group for the plan, which is a revised version of the original document that was presented to Council several months ago. That plan was revised to eliminate repetitions and tighten language.
According to the plan, economic development should be a village-wide effort.
“The Plan approaches economic sustainability holistically and does not view it as an isolated task nor the exclusive responsibility of any single sector of the Village,” the document states. “There is much work to be done. Organizations and individuals from all parts of the community — Village government, businesses, educational institutions, employers, non-profits, community groups and developers — will be called upon to lend their time and expertise to achieve the goals of The Plan. The Plan elaborates on specific areas where wide collaboration is needed.”
The plans identifies seven general recommendations with more specific strategies and action steps for each. The full revised Economic Sustainability Plan can be accessed online at yso.com, click on Council packet for June 4.
