Betty Jane Demmy Shank

Betty Jane Demmy Shank passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 10, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born March 31, 1925, to Charles and Charlotte “Lottie” (Hupman) Demmy, the youngest of seven siblings — Geneive, Mabel, Arthur, Harold “Hep,” Woodrow “Roe” and Virginia “Jink.”
She and her high school sweetheart, Raymond Lee Shank, were married in Louisville, Ky., on June 6, 1945, before he shipped off with the Army to Japan to fight in World War II. A farm couple, they loved, laughed, worked and played as they raised three children together until his death in 2002. Betty was a homemaker, pie baker, sewer, quilter, doughnut fryer, party giver, peacekeeper, fun lover, memory maker, historian, laugher, pool queen, mushroom hunter, lifeguard, baby rocker, tractor driver, garden planner, food canner, partner, trip taker, good friend, chicken plucker, comforter and all-around great person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and her husband of 57 years. Left to carry her memory are her children Peggy (Bob Zearfoss) Shank and grandson Lee Shank; Michael (Jennie) Shank and step-granddaughter Lindsay (Erik) Augustin; and Gary (Nancy) and grandsons Travis and Tyler (Caitlyn) and great-grandson Eli Shank; brother-in-law Joe Shank; many dear nieces and nephews; and her many friends and fans.
