High spirits

On Saturday, May 1, Tuck-N-Red’s Spirits & Wine had its grand opening under bright and sunny skies. Shortly after noon, co-owner of the distillery-winery, Charlie “Red” Harrell, gave his son, Ayden Harrell the honor of wielding the Chamber of Commerce scissors to cut the ribbon. Once the ribbon fell, a thirsty crowd quickly made its way inside.
According to Red, nearly 200 people came to the distiller-winery that day.
“It was just awesome,” Red told the News. “We learned a lot, had fun and loved seeing all the folks that came out.”
Throughout the inaugural day, John “Mickee” Mick and Tucker “Tuck” Thompson slung shots of their wares. Among the tastes they offered at the grand opening were blackberry, rose petal, dandelion, strawberry and blueberry wines — and, of course, good ol’ fashioned moonshine.
Tuck periodically set a small bowl of moonshine ablaze to show its potency.
Tuck-N-Red’s is now open Tuesday–Saturday, 1–9 p.m.
