Greene County reported a slight increase in the number of new cases per 100,000 residents over the most recent two-week period, with 228.5 as of Dec. 8, compared to 226.8 reported Dec. 1.

Ruth was born in 1925 in Montour County near Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and lived her adult life in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She died peacefully at Friends Care Community on Dec. 7, 2022, at age 97½ years.

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of William “Bill” Duncanfield Rahbek. He left us on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at Trinity Community at Fairborn.

Longtime Yellow Springs resident Dr. John “Jack” P. Layh passed away on Nov. 23, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida, from COVID-19 complications.

Cynthia E. Bittner, 64, of Yellow Springs, Ohio, died Dec. 2, 2022, in OSU Wexner Medical Center.

All the requests for this year’s Share the Joy tree have been made, and tags with gift requests are waiting to be filled at the Yellow Springs Library. The deadline for filling the requests is Friday, Dec. 16, by the library’s closing time at 6 p.m.

The memorial for Julia Reichert scheduled for this Friday afternoon has been postponed because of COVID. Interment will take place as scheduled on Saturday, at Woodland Cemetery.
