At its Monday, Aug. 16, regular meeting, Council voted unanimously to apply for a $4 million federal grant to build broadband infrastructure in the Village.
The Village of Yellow Springs is providing free Wi-Fi access downtown for a year in a pilot project that could eventually lead to community-owned broadband internet available throughout town.
A local group of municipal broadband supporters will continue its effort to bring a fiber optic network to Yellow Springs, following the decision of Village government leaders to not move forward with creating and funding a municipal network.
A municipal fiber optic network is feasible in Yellow Springs, according to members of Springs-Net, a citizen group that has been studying the issue for the past 18 months.
