Still time to join soccer camp
- Published: May 15, 2008
Registration for the Yellow Springs Soccer Inc. (YSSI) hosted summer soccer camps is currently under way. The location of this camp has been slightly changed to accommodate the Morgan soccer field renovation project that is scheduled to begin in June. The new location will be at the boys soccer practice field behind the high school, to the left of the stadium.
These British Soccer Challenger summer camps will be held during the week of June 16–20 for kids in Yellow Springs and surrounding areas. This will be the third year for these locally held soccer camps. Last year’s camp had over 50 participants and was a great success. Half-day camps (9 a.m.–noon) are offered for ages 6–9, 10–13 and 14–18. The cost of the week-long camp is $99.
The camp focuses on teaching key techniques and the technical components of soccer. These British soccer camps aim to coach skills within a framework of character development based on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship. Camps are lead by talented coaches from Britain who have a genuine interest in providing each player a memorable, positive experience while having fun and improving soccer skills.
A free clinic will also be offered to soccer coaches. The date and time of this clinic will be announced closer to the onset of the camp.
Those interested in participating can sign up easily on line at http://www.challengersports.com . Brochures are located at a number of Yellow Springs locations including: the Yellow Springs Community Library, the Bryan Community Center, Tom’s Market and Yellow Springs schools. Lauren Miller, a YSSI board member, serves as the camp coordinator and may be reached at 767-2072. Additional information may be obtained from Matt Hoy of British Soccer Challenger Sports at 888-290-9200, extension 5. Several area homes are needed to host the British soccer coaches during the week of camp. Contact Lauren if you are interested in this added cultural opportunity.
