CBE fails; library and fire levies pass
- Published: November 5, 2014
Public funding for the Center for Business and Education, or CBE, went down with a resounding “No” on election Day, with 64 percent of villagers voting against the public funding and 36 percent voting in favor.
The vote brings to a halt Village Council’s decision to move ahead with the business park, which has been in the making for more than a decade.
At the polls 1,147 voters opposed the CBE public funding while 649 voted in favor.
The library and Miami Township fire department/rescue squad levies fared better, and both passed handily in the village and the township. County-wide, voters passed the Greene County Public Library request for increased funding by voting 54.4 percent in favor and 41.5 percent opposed. In Yellow Springs, voters loved their library even more, and almost 90 percent of village voters said yes to the library.
The Miami Township Fire/Rescue renewal levy, which did not include a tax increase, also won easily. In the village, voters favored the levy by 87 percent, and in the township, 75 percent of voters approved.
