Miami Valley Community Action Partnership announces rent,
mortgage, and water assistance for Ohioans impacted by COVID-19
through the Ohio Home Relief Grant Emergency Services Program
(Dayton, Ohio) — Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (MVCAP), the Community Action Agency
serving Montgomery, Greene, Darke, and Preble Counties, has announced that there are funds available to
assist households impacted by COVID-19 with rent or mortgage payments and to prevent water and sewer
disconnections beginning November 2, 2020.
Ohioans who are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level and have fallen behind on rent or mortgage
payments, water bills, or sewer payments are encouraged to contact Miami Valley Community Action Partnership
to submit an application for assistance. Funds are available for a limited time and applicants are encouraged to
reach out early.
“We are thrilled to have this resource available to help our community maintain safe and healthy homes for
their families as we recover from the economic fallout from COVID-19,” said Lisa Stempler, President and
Chief Executive Officer of MVCAP. “Though the funds are available for a short time, this new resource and our
experience administering similar programs will help hundreds of households once again find stable ground.”
Governor Mike DeWine announced the availability of funds on October 23, 2020, during a joint press conference
with members of the General Assembly. The funding is part of the CARES Act stimulus package and are
available until December 30, 2020. All households who are experiencing challenges in paying their past due
payments should visit http://www.MiamiValleyCAP.org to learn more about the program and submit an application.
“Though the eviction moratorium by the Centers for Disease Control has prevented some residential evictions –
rent, late fees, fines, and interest are still accumulating,” said Stempler. “This funding will make a high impact, will
keep families in their homes now, and will prevent future evictions.”
The Ohio Home Relief Grant Emergency Services Program is MVCAP’s newest resource to assist residents
with past-due rent balances. Applicants that submitted applications for rental assistance under the Montgomery
County CARES rental assistance program should not reapply for this new funding. The deadline to apply for
Montgomery County CARES rental assistance was Friday, October 30, 2020. MVCAP will continue to process
previously-submitted applications on a first-come, first-served basis, with the funding source best suited to the
applicant’s unique circumstances. To inquire about the status of an application, customers are encouraged to
send an email to help@mvcap.com due to the high volume of calls. The new funding will be available to most
applicants through the end of the year, however, due to income and citizenship restrictions, some households
may not be eligible for rent or mortgage assistance.
When an applicant submits an online application at http://www.MiamiValleyCAP.org, the applicant will receive an email
notification confirming that MVCAP received the application. For the fastest possible service, applicants should
answer calls from our agency that might appear as unfamiliar or unknown numbers and should return voicemails
and emails from our agency promptly. MVCAP has partnered with the HomeOwnership Center of Greater Dayton
to process applications for Mortgage assistance. Homeowners may also apply from a link on our website or at
http://www.homeownershipdayton.org/map/. Paper applications for all programs are available and may be submitted
via drop box at our County Office locations at:
• Dayton: 719 S. Main St.
• Xenia: 469 Dayton Ave.
• Greenville: 1230 Adrien Ave.
• Eaton: 308 Eaton-Lewisburg Rd.
