We note with sadness the passing of Bacon Ke in San Francisco, at the age of 101.

Born in Hankou, China, he took a degree in chemistry from Shanghai and one in biology from Wuhan. He came to the U.S. in 1947, studied at the University of Michigan and was awarded a Ph.D. in chemistry by Wayne State University 1959. He moved to Yellow Springs and became a research leader in photochemistry at C.F. Kettering Laboratory.

With his wife, Keiko Ke, he was a leading citizen of the village. Ke held a patent in electroplating and wrote the definitive book on photosynthesis.
