Well on the way to Wellness
Last Saturday Antioch College opened to the public its 44,000-square foot Wellness Center currently undergoing a yearlong $8 million renovation. The Wellness Center announced its membership rates in an insert in this week’s News and at http://www.wellnesscenter.antiochcollege.org, and has launched a community fundraising campaign to help pay off the center.

Playing in the street
Chamber music wafted from downtown streets last Saturday morning, as young musicians performed to raise money for the Yellow Springs music program, including Summer Strings. A story on Summer Strings, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer, will appear in next week’s News.

Strides for scholarships
On Saturday, June 14, about 600 people took part in Young’s Jersey Dairy’s Cheddar Challenge, a 5K run/walk with part of the proceeds going to the scholarship fund at Antioch University Midwest. About 24 mainly AUMidwest staff took part as Team Antioch.

Three new police officers were sworn into the Yellow Springs Police Department on May 19th.

At last Friday’s exhibition of the school-wide Project Peace Initiative at Mills Lawn School, third-graders performed a conga drum performance, as part of D.R.U.M Code.

Throwing things at school
Local artist Geno Luketic visited Mills Lawn School Thursday, May 15 and demonstrated how to throw pots out of clay on an electric wheel.

Adult entertainment
This year’s prom queen was Gayle Sampson and the prom king went only by “Risky Business” for the outfit she based upon Tom Cruise’s character in that film. Oh, hoppy day!
Warm and sunny spring weather brought out around 40 local toddlers and young children to scramble for eggs at the annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 19, sponsored by Central Chapel AME Church. Click below to see the photos larger.

After a strong spring warming, Yellow Springs woke up to an all-too familiar winter sight Tuesday morning, as a quick cold front brought a sticky blanket of snow and freezing temperatures to the region.
