Vernay is potential solar site
At their Sept. 7 meeting, Village Council members took their first official step toward adding solar power to the Village energy portfolio when they unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance for an AMP solar energy subscription package.

Solar project elicits interest
At the Aug. 16 Village Council meeting Village leaders expressed enthusiasm for a new American Municipal Power, or AMP, solar energy subscription package, and asked Village Manager Mark Cundiff to prepare an ordinance to enable the Village to sign on to the project.

Village receives fluoridation award
On Tuesday the Ohio Department of Health will present the Village with a certificate of appreciation for its 50-year practice of fluoridating local water.

The burning of Rabbit Run farmhouse
After purchasing Rabbit Run Farm on Dayton Street, Vernay Laboratories razed its farmhouse, due to concerns over the safety of the vacant building. The controlled burn was used as a training operation for Miami Township Fire-Rescue and other local fire departments on August 7, 2010.

Village Council—Sidewalk fixes to move ahead
At their Aug. 2 Village Council meeting, Council members unanimously approved a resolution that allows the Village to move ahead with assessing local property owners on the east side of Xenia Avenue the cost of repairing sidewalks deemed substandard and unsafe. “This project has been on our radar a long time,” said Council member Karen Wintrow.

MTFR has postponed the July 17 controlled burn of the Rabbit Run farmhouse because of further mandated asbestos testing.

Village crew works snow days
When the sky turns a steely grey and snow starts sheeting down, many residents run for their hearths and accept that they’re at the mercy of the white burial. But Village crew members head straight at the snow, outfitting themselves with plows and backhoes to wrangle up some order, at least in the streets. The eight members of the Village street and electric crews have done quite a bit of wrangling this month since the winter’s two biggest snowstorms dropped nearly 20 inches of snow on the village.
