  • Virda Womacks

    Virda May Womacks, died on Saturday, Jan. 31, in her home, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 88. Born on July 20, 1920, in Breathitt County, Ky., a daughter of William and Nancy (Banks) Oliver, Virda was one of the sweetest spirits ever encountered — tremendously selfless and devotedly loving.

    Zerlean “Zee” Upshaw of Springfield died on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Springfield Regional Medical Center, High Street Campus. She was 71. She was born March 5, 1937, in Aiken, S.C., to the late Lafayette and Thelma (Smith) Andrews.

  • Ben Waterman

    Benjamin F. Waterman died at his home in Xenia on Jan. 19. He was 87. He was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Lynn, Mass., to the late Frank L. and Pauline E. Waterman.

  • Leroy Sanford

    Leroy Sanford of Clifton died Monday, Jan. 19. He was 87. He was born Aug. 2, 1921, to Henrietta Sanford. He was the oldest of four children. He went to Mitchell School in Wilberforce, Ohio.

  • Chuck Smart

    Former Yellow Springs resident Chuck Smart died Dec. 29, 2008, in Bremerton, Washington with his wife, Dawn, and his brother, Sydney, at his side. He was born Feb. 10, 1941.

  • Ronald Castle

    Ronald (Ronnie) G. Castle of Springfield died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 13. He was 45. He was born Aug. 19, 1964, in Springfield, Ohio, son of Darrell and Judith Castle.

  • Robert Womacks

    Robert B. “Bob” Womacks of Yellow Springs died Saturday morning Jan. 10, in his home. He was 85. He was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Jefferson Township, Ohio, a son of Amzie Byron and Mary Jane (Rowell) Womacks.

  • Roger L. Pitstick

    Roger L. Pitstick died Monday, Dec. 29, at Friends Care Center in Yellow Springs. He was two days shy of 79. He was born on Dec. 31, 1929, outside of Fairborn on the family farm. He was a lifelong farmer of Yellow Springs and an active community member.

  • Alice Casenhiser

    Alice M. Casenhiser passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, in Centerville, Ohio. She was 90. Alice was born April 15, 1918, in New York City. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. M. Casenhiser; sister, Helen; and daughter, Cay Casenhiser.

  • Dorothy Clark memorial

    The community is invited to attend a celebration of the life of Dorothy J. Clark, who passed away Oct. 23. The event will occur Sunday, Dec. 14, 3–5 p.m., in the Westminster Hall of the First Presbyterian Church. Guests are invited to share anecdotes and other memories in her honor.
