Over 200 people participated in Yellow Springs’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. memorial march and subsequent celebration at the Central Chapel, AME this January 20.

Marchers braved the cold slushy weather and sang the traditional “We Shall Overcome” and “This Little Light of Mine” while marching from Mills Lawn School through town and ending at the Central Chapel AME Church on High and Davis.

The celebration, emceed by Bomani Moyenda, included speakers William E. Randolph Jr., MLK Jr.’s cousin Rev. Joel King, the reading of the winning essays by Yellow Springs students and the awarding of Peacemaker Awards.

Musical performances included the Booth Family Drummers, as well as rousing gospel and civil-rights inspired music by the World House Choir, directed by Catherine Roma.

Below are some photos of the march as well as two selections of the performance by the choir.
