  • A stormy but jubilant eighth-grade promotion

A gym full of proud moms, dads, grandmas, aunts, uncles and friends attended the McKinney Middle School eighth-grade promotion ceremony on Wednesday, June 2, at the high school gym. Even a fierce thunderstorm and close lightning strikes couldn’t darken the mood of the 47 eighth-graders who received certificates of promotion that marked the passage from middle school to high school. The students also heard a presentation by guest speaker Jodi Pettiford and “Gudge’s 10 Tips to Eighth-graders” by retiring school principal John Gudgel, who advised the young people to turn their school work in on time, talk to their parents and be their own person.
