  • Quilt opening for faeries and other good folks

It feels like the space was made for Sharri Phillip’s magical quilts. In her third show at the Emporium, Phillips once again transforms the cafe’s lounge area with her warm, colorful — and definitively enchanting — fiber arts.

It would be hard to find someone with a more unique story than that of Elizabeth (Beth) Hertz, a painter well known in the Dayton area for more than four decades.

  • Watercolors capture birds in nature

Springfield artist Kathryn Lehotsky uses watercolor in an unusual way to depict her highly detailed Ohio birds, now showing at the Glen.

  • Artist Michael Casselli — Art, talk that sizzles and sparks

In his studio, contemporary artist Michael Casselli surveyed the handmade paper he learned to create for a recent exhibition. His current Emporium show, ‘Works on Paper,’ features seven printed images of abstracted young faces to emphasize the intangible quality of memory. It runs until Sept. 30. (Photo by Megan Bachman)

From his 5,000-square-foot studio in Millworks, Michael Casselli creates artwork that sparks and fizzes, blurs boundaries and engages all senses.

  • Casselli’s contemporary artwork opens at Emporium

Michael Casselli’s contemporary and experimental artwork now has a home in the village in new exhibit at the Emporium Cafe and an electric installation along the bike path.

  • Original art, outside on summer’s day

Local artist Sue Brezine helped organize Village Artisans’ 28th annual Art on the Lawn arts and crafts festival, which takes place this Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Mills Lawn Elementary School. Brezine stands before a set of canine paintings by Mozart Dane, who is the festival’s featured artist. (Photo by Megan Bachman)

The annual fine arts show held in Yellow Springs during the dog days of August will feature a Great Dane this year who paints with his paws.

  • Local design goes universal

David Battle’s design for the Peace Corps could be aptly called a classic. He originally created the image for a poster contest for the 10th anniversary of the Peace Corps in 1971.

  • A New Yorker cartoonist from YS

Tom Bachtell’s cartoons were first seen on the T-shirts he designed for his Yellow Springs High School senior class.

  • Correction — Mexican artists opening reception

The opening reception for Mexican artists Macario Carrillo and Francisco Loza will be Thursday, June 23, from 6–8 p.m. at the Glen House, 1221 Glen Road.

  • New gallery shows eclectic art

Art aficionados can be expected to embrace a new gallery in the downtown. But the owners of the new Springs Gallery say they also welcome those who know they like art but feel lost when it comes to buying it.
